Testing Force integrated apps

Testing an Enterprise 2.0 application integrated with Salesforce brings with it unique challenges across the board. Every minute product feature, and all related testing matters need to be considered and prioritized by the test team.

The test team should be capable enough to understand the subtleties involved in E2.0 and Web 2.0 applications, the testing of which can overwhelm the team. This white paper discusses in-depth Imaginea's experience with testing Qontext - an enterprise social collaboration platform on Force.com.

There are two types of key considerations that are crucial while testing such applications - product-related and development methodology-related. For instance, apart from the web interface, Qontext provides a desktop-based application (Pulse) view discussions, streams, notifications and documents. This brings with a new product-related dimension that needs to be considered while testing for consistency across platforms. Similarly, agile methodology requires testers to be smart about test automation. This and several other considerations are discussed in the paper.

A detailed analysis of functional, automation and use-case testing strategy is also provided. Salesforce specific considerations such as single sign-on, automation coverage and customization are discussed as well along with a brief discussion on risks and challenges.
